RED GOLD
PART 1
RED GOLD" is the next project for Chicago-born film producer and screenwriter, Alessandro di Gaetano. RED GOLD
is the World War II story of Italian soldiers, captured in North Africa, in 1943, and sent to American and British Prisoner
of War Camps. This is also the story of young lovers from different worlds who defy the forces of prejudice and
social standards of their time.
The History:
In 1940 Mussolini feared that Germany was near victory, and if Italy
did not join forces with the Axis Powers, Italy would again become a conquered nation. Il Duce believed his "Guerra
Parallela", (Parallel War) would give Italy a stronghold in the Mediterranean and Balkan areas, thus insuring Italy
a position of equality at the negotiation table.
Over 50,000 Italian were held in camps in 26 states. Camp Atterbury,
near Indianapolis, Indiana, is the location of the RED GOLD love story. Since most American men were enlisted
in the armed services or working for the war industry, the US needed help with farm and road work. The Italian prisoners
from Camp Atterbury were sent to work on the nearby tomato farms and canneries. Without the help of the POWs the crops
would have gone to waste.
The Story:
After Orlando and his new friend, Mimmo are captured in Africa they are sent
to a POW Camp. While working at the farm and cannery, Orlando attempts to meet and win the heart of Laura, a young local girl.
Despite prohibitions of any contact between prisoners and locals, some Italian men fell in love with American girls.
After the war many of these former POWs returned to marry their sweethearts and become American citizens, but
some of the relationships came to tragic consequences.
The Cast:
MARCO LEONARDI, the Italian heart-throb
of Academy Award winning films "Cinema Paradiso" and "Like Water For Chocolate", as well as "The Five Senses" and "Once Upon
A Time In Mexico", plays the hero Orlando.
ENRICO LO VERSO star of "Farinelli",
"L America", and "Hannibal" and dozens of European films, plays Mimmo, Orlando's clever and loyal
friend .
This universal, but untold story is of significant artistic, cultural, and historic interest to Italy, Great
Britain, and the United States, (caught together in the bloody sands of North Africa) and a deeply moving emotional experience
for people everywhere.

PART 2 (L'Italiano)

Red Gold (Prigioneri della Coure) e’ una storia di passione ed inspirazione che involge
due amanti durante il clima turbulente della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Basata su eventi realmente accaduti e’ un’incrocio
tra “Romeo e Giulietta” , il magico realismo di “Come Acqua Per Cioccolato” ed il romanticismo di
“ The Notebook”.
I nostri innamorati sono Orlando, un giovane ed attraente prigioniero
di guerra Italiano che discende da una famiglia di burattinai (i burattini sono una parte importante della storia), e Laura
una bellissima ragazza Americana dai capelli rossi che Orlando incontra quando e’ assegnato con gli altri prigionieri
di guerra ai lavori forzati in una fattoria vicino ad un piccolo paese in Indiana- Nel cuore dell’America.

Nel 1943 migliaia di prigionieri di Guerra Italiani catturati
in Nord Africa vennero trattenuti in campi di prigionia Americani. Dovuto alla mancanza di manodopera ( la maggior parte degli
uomini Americani stavano combattendo all’estero) gli italiani vennero assegnati a lavori forzati in fattorie, fabbriche
o a costruire strade. Anche se I contatti tra prigionieri e le persone del posto erano proibiti in questo periodo di pregiudizio
e timore, molti prigionieri si innamorarono di ragazze del luogo che riuscirono a conoscere.

Red Gold (Prigioneri della Coure) avra’ un cast di stars internazionali
(ancora da annunciare) che include Marco Leonardi; il protagonista di due film vincitori d’Oscar (“Cinema paradiso”
e “Come Acqua Per Cioccolato”) e della recente co-produzione Rai/Mediaset “Hand Of God” dove fa’
la parte di Maradona ed Enrico LoVerso il protagonista di premiati film come “Farinelli”, “Come Ridevano”
e “Lamerica”.
