What is OSIA?

Order Sons of Italy in America

Originally called "L'Ordine Figli d'Italia," the Order Sons of Italy in America was established in the Little Italy neighborhood of New York City on June 22, 1905, by Vincenzo Sellaro, M.D., and five other Italian immigrants who came to the United States during the great Italian migration (1880-1923). Their aim was to create a support system for all Italian immigrants that would assist them with becoming U.S. citizens, provide health/death benefits and educational opportunities and offer assistance with assimilation in America.

The Objectives of our LODGE :
1. Raise money for SOI Charities and Scholarships

THE CAPE CORAL LODGE# 2504

IS NAMED AFTER:

Charles J. Bonaparte

Charles Joseph Bonaparte 1851–1921, was the grandson of Jérôme Bonaparte (the youngest brother of the French emperor Napoleon I).

A lawyer and political leader in Baltimore, he identified himself with reform causes. President Theodore Roosevelt appointed him one of the commissioners to investigate conditions in the Indian Territory and in 1905 appointed him Secretary of the Navy. In Dec., 1906, he shifted from this office to that of Attorney General, which he retained until the end of Roosevelt’s administration. He was active in suits brought against the trusts and was largely responsible for breaking up the tobacco monopoly. He was one of the founders, and for a time the president, of the National Municipal League.

FLORIDA  GRAND LODGE

What Does Your Italian-American Heritage Mean to You?

Each of us might answer this question differently. For some, our Italian-American heritage is expressed in the way we prepare traditional holiday meals, celebrate religious customs, or relate to family and friends. Some of us speak Italian and travel to Italy regularly. Some of us were raised in Italian-American neighborhoods. Most of us share in the appreciation of Italy's countless contributions to architecture, art, law, literature, music, painting, and science.

However we may express our pride in our heritage, as immigrants or descendants of those who left their Italian homes for a new life in America, we are part of the enduring, strong, and colorful community--Italian America.
